Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup is upon us and fifth-time champions Brazil are headed there all smiles. They are number one in the world, as far as the latest men’s FIFA rankings are concerned after the last international friendlies late in September.
The elite competition will commence on Sunday, November 20 till December 18. Brazil is always a crowd puller and they are heading to Qatar as favourites to lift the trophy for the record sixth time.
In their two warm-up matches, led by Neymar Jr, a few weeks ago they played and defeated two African nations that will also be part of the competition in Qatar. They first beat Ghana 3-0 and next was Tunisia a few days later and they humiliated them by 5-1 and both matches were held in France.
This World Cup would also be Argentina captain Lionel Messi’s last. The Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) attacker confirmed it himself.
“This will be my last World Cup, for sure. The decision has been made.” the dribbling wizard told Argentina media on Thursday.
Qatar’s World Cup would be the 35-year-old’s fifth competition and in 2014 he came short of winning the trophy in Brazil. Argentina, who are ranked third in the world, lost 1-0 to Germany in the final and it must be said, they are also one of the favourites to lift this year’s trophy.
Reigning champions France ranked fourth in the world, can’t be ruled out as favourites despite losing two consecutive warm-up matches by 2-0 to Austria and Denmark in September. Les Bleus will be led up front by Kylian Mbappe.
Neymar, Messi and Mbappe all play for the French giants PSG and in Qatar, they will be fighting for World Cup glory for their respective nations.
