After a difficult 3-9 season, Kenny Dillingham and the new-look Devils expect to make significant progress this year. Coach Dillingham showcased his incredible talent of recruiting talent through his optimism, energy, and genuine sincerity. Hopefully, with a full term of recruitment and training camp, Coach Kenny can establish themselves in their brand-new conference, the Big 12. Their first challenge? The Wyoming Cowboys.

Big 12 Vs MWC

Wyoming finished last year with a solid 9-4 record and successfully beat Toledo in the Arizona Bowl, which is certainly a season for them to be proud of. However, Arizona State plays more in the groups of the big boys and is expected to be the better team from a better conference. Surely there’s no argument that the Big 12 is better than the MWC, but will one of the Big 12’s rebuilding programs manage to beat one of the best of the MWC?

Key Focuses to Beat Wyoming

Last year, Arizona State struggled to put points on the board, averaging only 17.8 points a game. The finger can be pointed for many different reasons, but Coach Dillingham’s hands were tied when so many of the roster’s key players were hurt. This year, Coach has declared he is putting his trust in QB1 Sam Leavitt to try and pick this wounded offense back onto their feet.

Although there was a struggle offensively, there is some veteran experience on the other side of the ball for the Sun Devils returning for the 2024 season. The defense will be key to winning the season opener, with the emphasis being on stopping the game on the ground. Wyoming averaged 158.5 yards per game last year, so the defensive line and linebackers need to keep their eyes peeled on their halfback, Harrison Waylee.

History Between Arizona State and Wyoming

Arizona State has faced up against Wyoming 15 times in the school’s history, with the last match-up being 50 years ago. However, we hope the result of Saturday’s game will be the same as that blowout in 1977 when the Devils hogtied the Cowboys to a 45-0 destruction. ASU holds a 9-6 record against Wyoming. Let’s put that win column into the double digits.
