HOW WELL DEMAR DEROZAN HAS BEEN PLAYING THIS YEAR

DeMar DeRozan and the Chicago Bulls have been tearing thru the league and are at the top of the Eastern Conference for one of the first times since the 2011 season where Derrick Rose had his MVP year. With one of the best mid-range shootings in the league, DeRozan is quickly inserting himself into the conversation for a top 5 player in the league for the year. I got a chance to talk to fellow ASAP Sportswriter, Chicago Bull’s superfan, and host of the always incredible podcast Mike on the Mic, Mike Hughes, and he had this to say about DeRozan’s season so far. “That’s a great question, in my opinion, it’s more so DeRozan’s work ethic has gotten him into MVP conversations more than anything. The mid-range game isn’t as predicted as it used to be but DeRozan’s officiant scoring and consistency in clutch time has truly separated him from the pack and revived the mid-range game. When I look at what DeMar DeRozan is doing right now, I compared it to what Jimmy Butler did in the Bubble in 2020. Of course, guys like Jimmy and DeMar aren’t nearly as all world like LeBron, Giannis, Durant, Curry, and other MVP candidates but their work ethic is the best of the best and it speaks volumes on the court.” He averaged 28.2 points per game, 5 assists, 5.2 rebounds per game as the leader of the Bulls starting squad. And as the Bulls continue their dominance in the East, only time can tell if their regular-season success can translate to a deep playoff run and maybe for the first time since Michael Jordan’s last year in Chicago in 1998, an NBA title.
