Rocky Start In Kansas City

As the Kansas City Chiefs begin their title defense against the Detroit Lions Thursday night. You assumed that even though the Chiefs were without Chris Jones who’s still holding out for more money and Travis Kelce who suffered a hyperextended knee injury during practice this week. We all believed that Patrick Mahomes would put on his Superman cape and carry the Chiefs to another season-opening victory.

The problem was he got zero help from his receiving core. The Chiefs had 8 dropped passes in total Thursday night with WR 1 Kadarius Toney having four of those including the huge drop with just under two minutes left in the game with the Chiefs only trailing by a point. That catch would’ve put the Chiefs in position for a game-winning field goal for Mr. Clutch himself Harrison Butker. Instead, the Chiefs failed to get a first down and the game was over.

Kadarius Toney let down the city and his teammates Thursday night, and instead of facing the music and taking accountability for his bad performance he was nowhere to be found after the game and left the locker room before the media was allowed in. Toney can’t just enjoy the spotlight when times are good. His bad performance combined with his attitude on the sidelines is not a good look and if he doesn’t improve from what we saw against the Lions then Toney can easily find himself off the roster completely.

Every Batman needs a Robin and in this case, Robin is Travis Kelce who will definitely be needed as the Chiefs go to Jacksonville next Sunday for a must-win early season game. Adversity has hit the Chiefs after just one game. Now will Champs respond or be one step closer to an early season knockout that nobody saw coming?
