3 top cornerbacks that could join a new team this year
While it seems like this free agency will be a hectic one, there are some names that many people don’t think will be leaving for a new team to join but here at ASAP Sports, I’ll take 3 players and see where they’ll be an ideal fit at their new possible home.
Denzel Ward, Cleveland Browns to Chicago Bears
With the secondary of the Cleveland Browns emerging as a top contender with the outside secondary having a total of a 71.8 passer rate when thrown to them, it would only be reasonable for a team to want to bring in Ward to boost their secondary and elevate from what they had this year. And I think that the best choice is the Chicago Bears. With them lacking in the secondary being one of the highest passer ratings with 103.3. This would work out with both teams cause the bears can unload a wr that is going to leave in the off season like Marquise Goodwin or Allen Robinson and the Browns can upgrade their offense to help one of the most underrated quarterbacks in the league in Baker Mayfield.
Stephon Gilmore, Carolina Panthers to Tennessee Titans
It seems like the former 2020 defensive player of the year is possibly on the move to a 3rd team in 2 years from being traded to the Panthers last off season from the New England Patriots having a career year with them. But now after some injury concerns, he could be in store for a new career best season if he leaves the Panthers for another team soon. I think that the Tennessee Titans will go after Gilmore to have a more veteran secondary with him, Janoris Jenkins, Logan Byrd and others. While they had one of the highest in passes defended with 80, I believe that Gilmore will bring their pass defense to be one of the best in the league with his press coverage speciality.
Malcom Butler, Arizona Cardinals to the New England Patriots
While Malcom Butler has not been in the spotlight since his time in New England, the 7 year veteran has been one of the most consistent players while still switching teams going to Tennessee before landing in Arizona last year. The Cardinals have been in the middle of the field for secondary stats with a allowed passer rating of 93.5 but with a upgrade at Tight End or Running Back, they could very well send Butler to a 4th team in his career. I think a return to the Patriots would be the most ideal destination for Butler with them desperate to get players to relieve JC Jackson of some of the workload in the secondary to one of the best in the league.
