With all the head coaches’ vacancies being filled a few weeks ago, this allows me to look towards the next offseason to see which teams are going to look at offensive coordinators to bring in a new Head Coach.
Luka Doncic is in a category of his own, the 21-year-old is still fresh out of the draft in 2018 and is already showing signs that he could be the face of the NBA for many years to come. With over 45 career triple-doubles, he has an amazing basketball IQ and the ability to get to the rim with his elusiveness. The Mavericks have been trying their best to build around the Slovenian and while they have had good regular-season success, meanwhile their postseason success after getting Doncic has not been up to par. With only 2 appearances in the playoffs and both coming to an end with losses to the Clippers, Dallas should get some role players that fit the offense that is surrounded by the 21-year-old. With forward size, Doncic often runs the point for his ability to handle the ball and run pick-and-rolls. He has sensational passing instincts and vision. His 31.3 assist percentage is higher than most first-round NCAA point guards. Doncic is also crafty off the dribble in changing speed and direction and using improvisation off runners, floaters, and layups to score. And though his one-on-one creation needs work, he’s shown he can separate into pull-ups and step-backs. With all of this and a healthy Mavericks team, Luka while being in a stacked conference in the west should be able to have to necessities to win it all possibly even as soon as this year but only time will tell if that can come to fruition.
