YOUNG FEVER TEAM SHOWS PROMISE

The Indiana Fever opened up the WNBA regular season with 2 losses. But there is no need for panic. The newly drafted rookies for the Indiana Fever had an impact on both games this weekend.

On Friday the Fever played the Mystics in the season opener. The Fever was defeated 84-70. The Fever got off to a slow start, they turned the ball over 7 times in the first quarter and had 11 total turnovers at the half. They also went on a 5 min and 45-second scoring drought to end the first half and were down by 19 at the half.

The Fever battled back in the second half to get within 6 but never got closer than that. But in the second half, the team chemistry looked better and the rookies settled down and contributed.  The leading scorer was Kelsy Mitchell who had 18pts in the season opener. Rookies Nalyssa Smith and Queen Egbo Egbo had 13pts and 10 points respectively.

On Sunday the Fever played one of the best teams in the WNBA, the Los Angeles Sparks. The Fever came up short but this game showed me a lot about this young Fever team. They lost the game by 10 pts but they showed a lot of heart and battled the whole game rookie Destanni Henderson led the Fever with 19pts, while rookie Nalyssa Smith and Kelsey Mitchell had 13pts & 15 pts respectively.

Indiana fever fans should be excited the future looks bright for the Fever. I believe they will have a much better season this year than they did last year. This year’s draft class will have a lot to do with the Fevers turnaround.
