Baltimore’s Offseason Dance

The Baltimore Ravens’ biggest question this off-season was are they going to pay Lamar?
Will Todd Monken transform the offensive play style? How can we rebuild the wide receiver
room?

Payday for Lamar!

We can all agree that the Ravens and Lamar Jackson did the tango this off-season with his
contract negotiations. There are some speculations of why the Ravens wouldn’t pay him the
money he wanted, and other speculations of collusion. Lamar Jackson called the Ravens
Bluff on drafting another quarterback. With demands from Lamar to get a star wide
receiver the Ravens go out and sign Odell Beckham Jr.
Regardless of what we thought it was, the Baltimore Ravens found a way to pay their
quarterback and inked him for 5 years $260 million.

Is Monken the Answer?

With the addition of offensive coordinator Todd Monken, the Ravens look to change their
style of offense to fit Lamar’s college days. Lamar Jackson played in a pro-style offense in
Louisville with a four-wide receiver lineup. Todd Monken looks to bring some of that back to
the offense for Lamar Jackson. A quote stated from Todd Monken says “ You’re going to
see Lamar air it out, Lamar is going in without a play call wristband. He’s going to have the
most control over the offense he’s ever had before. We’re confident in Lamar’s capability to
make the necessary changes at the line of scrimmage to help get us the win.” With the
narrative around Lamar Jackson not being able to throw outside the numbers, this will be a
great year for him and the new offense to turn that around.

Receiver Room

General manager, Eric Decosta, stated this off-season, “ We’re going to transform the wide
receiver room, whether that’s in the draft, free agency whatever it takes.” The Ravens did
just that. They signed wide receiver Nelson Agholor, wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr,
drafted wide receiver Zay Flowers, and last but not least added former first-round wide
receiver Laquon Treadwell. These are the most weapons the Baltimore Ravens have ever
given quarterback Lamar Jackson. It’s also noted wide receiver Zay Flowers has hit a growth
spurt since the combine and is now measuring at a height of 6 ‘2. Pro Bowl wide receiver
Odell Beckham Jr says he has no limitations and feels as healthy as he has in years.

The Ravens have some hard decisions to make for the 52-man roster this year being that they
have OBJ, Flowers, Bateman, Agholor, Duvernay, and Treadwell. With a healthy roster this
year, this may be the best office we’ve seen for the Baltimore Ravens yet.
